Seville · Proposal Guide
Seville is one of Europe's most romantic cities — all orange blossom, golden light and centuries-old plazas — which makes it a magical place to propose. As a proposal photographer who shoots these spots year-round, I'm asked the same question all the time: where is the best place to get down on one knee? Here are my favourite places to propose in Seville, from the show-stopping to the intimate — plus tips on timing, light and keeping it a complete surprise.
The most iconic place to propose in Seville — so much so that I've written a dedicated guide to proposing at Plaza de España. Its sweeping tiled bridges, curved colonnade and boat-dotted canal make an unforgettable backdrop. Go at sunrise for soft light and near-empty walkways, or at golden hour for warm, romantic tones. For a little privacy in the moment itself, the quieter ends of the colonnade are perfect.
Manicured hedges, tiled fountains, peacocks and centuries of history (you may recognise it from Game of Thrones). The gardens are pure romance — see my full guide to proposing at the Real Alcázar. A practical tip: book your tickets in advance and check the current rules — the palace interior gets busy and photography is sometimes restricted, so the gardens are usually your best bet.
The old Jewish quarter's whitewashed lanes, orange trees and tiny squares — like Plaza de Doña Elvira and Plaza de Santa Cruz — are ideal for an intimate surprise, tucked away from the crowds — see my guide to proposing in Barrio Santa Cruz. Perfect if you want the moment to feel like it's just the two of you.
For something contemporary, the undulating wooden walkway of Las Setas offers sweeping 360° sunset views over the rooftops of Seville — a dramatic, modern alternative to the classic historic spots.
Right beside the Plaza de España, this leafy park with its fountains, tiled benches and fluttering doves is a gentle, storybook setting — quieter than the plaza but just as pretty.
Sunset over the river, with the Torre del Oro and the Triana bridge as your backdrop. Open, warm and quintessentially Seville — see my full guide to proposing in Triana, or for something modern, proposing at Las Setas.
For sheer scale and drama, the cathedral and the Giralda tower are hard to beat. Plaza del Triunfo and the surrounding streets give you grand, timeless photos with a real sense of place.
Golden hour — the hour just after sunrise or before sunset — gives the softest, most flattering light and the quietest streets. Spring (March to May) brings orange blossom and mild weather; autumn is golden and calm; summer is hot and busy, so an early-morning proposal is your friend. Midweek almost always beats the weekend for crowds.
The secret to a surprise proposal with beautiful photos is a photographer who blends in. I position myself discreetly nearby — often looking like any other tourist taking pictures — so your partner has no idea. We agree a subtle signal and a spot beforehand, I capture the exact moment you drop to one knee, and then we turn it into a relaxed couples shoot to celebrate.
Whichever spot you choose, I'll help you plan it and photograph it discreetly, so you can be fully in the moment. Take a look at my proposal photography, or get in touch to start planning your surprise.
Good to know
The Plaza de España is the most iconic place to propose in Seville, with its tiled bridges and romantic canal. The Real Alcázar gardens, the hidden plazas of Barrio Santa Cruz and the riverside in Triana are equally beautiful — I'll help you choose the perfect spot for your surprise.
Yes — this is exactly what I do. I position myself discreetly nearby, often looking like any other tourist taking photos, so your partner has no idea. We agree a signal and a spot beforehand, and I capture the exact moment you get down on one knee.
Public places like the Plaza de España, Barrio Santa Cruz and the riverside are free to visit. The Real Alcázar requires an entry ticket booked in advance, and its rules can change, so it's worth checking before you plan around it.
Golden hour — the hour after sunrise or before sunset — gives the softest, most flattering light and the quietest streets. Sunrise at the Plaza de España is especially magical, with almost no crowds.
Once she says yes, we turn it into a relaxed engagement or couples session at the same location, so you leave with a full gallery celebrating the moment — not just the proposal itself.
