Seville · Andalusia
Family photographer in Seville for relaxed, natural family portraits at the city's most beautiful locations. Whether you are visiting on holiday or live here, I create warm, unposed images the whole family will treasure — from little ones to grandparents.
Sessions are easy and fun, with gentle direction so everyone feels comfortable and the real personalities shine through.

Seville gives you four or five genuinely different backdrops within a twenty-minute walk, which is why a single family session here can look like it was shot across a whole trip. The Plaza de España is the one most families picture first — the tiled alcoves, the bridges over the canal, the wide curve of the building behind you. It works well with groups because there is space to move and children can run without anyone worrying. The gardens of the Real Alcázar are quieter and greener, with orange trees, fountains and shaded courtyards that hold up when the sun is high. The narrow whitewashed lanes of Barrio Santa Cruz give you colour and character at close range. Across the river, Triana offers the bridge, the tiled facades and the riverside walk — the most relaxed of the four, and often the best choice for teenagers who would rather not pose in front of a crowd. A full breakdown of what suits which group is on the Seville locations page.
Small children set the pace, and the session works best when it is built around that rather than against it. I keep things short and moving — forty-five minutes to an hour of actual shooting is usually plenty before a toddler has had enough — and I photograph what is happening rather than asking for stillness. Some of the strongest frames from a family session come from the in-between moments: a child being lifted, a shared laugh at something off camera, a parent straightening a collar. Morning slots tend to work better than evening ones for under-fives, before naps and tiredness set in. Bring a snack, a favourite toy, and no expectation that everyone will look at the lens at the same time — that photo is rarely the one you end up framing anyway.
Multi-generational sessions are some of the most meaningful work I do, and they usually happen because a family has travelled to Seville together for a milestone — a significant birthday, an anniversary, a first trip with everyone in one place. Larger groups need a little more planning: level ground for older relatives, somewhere shaded to sit between setups, and a location where twelve people can be photographed without competing with a crowd for space. The Plaza de España handles big groups better than anywhere else in the city, and the Alcázar gardens are a strong second if entry is booked in advance. I always photograph the full group first, while everyone is fresh and tidy, then work through the smaller combinations — each couple, the siblings, the grandparents with the grandchildren — so nobody is left standing around waiting their turn.
Not every session involves children. Couples come to Seville for anniversaries, honeymoons, birthdays, or simply because they would like photographs of themselves that are not phone selfies taken at arm's length. These shoots are slower and more intimate than family sessions, and I direct them lightly — walking, talking, a hand at the small of a back — rather than working through a list of poses. If you have recently got engaged, the engagement photography page covers that in more detail, including how a session differs when the ring is already on. And if the engagement has not happened yet, that is a different service altogether: see proposal photography in Seville.
Seville is bright. In summer, the middle of the day is genuinely difficult — harsh overhead sun, deep shadows under the eyes, and heat that no child will tolerate for long. The first two hours after sunrise and the last two before sunset are when the city looks its best: warm, low, directional light that flatters skin and brings out the colour in the tiles and stone. Early morning carries a second advantage that matters more than most people expect — the Plaza de España is close to empty at eight in the morning and packed by eleven. If you are visiting between June and September I will almost always suggest a sunrise slot. From November through March the light stays usable much later into the morning and earlier into the afternoon, which makes scheduling far easier with small children.
This is the most common question I get, and the answer is simpler than most guides make it sound: choose two or three colours that sit well together and let everyone pick something within that range. Matching outfits exactly tends to look staged; a complete free-for-all tends to clash. Soft, muted tones — cream, sand, sage, dusty blue, terracotta — photograph beautifully against Seville's ochre stone and coloured tilework. Avoid large logos, bright neons and busy patterns, all of which pull the eye away from faces. Flowing fabrics move well in the light and photograph better than stiff, structured pieces. Comfortable shoes matter more than they sound like they should, because we will walk between locations. There is a full guide with examples on what to wear for a Seville photoshoot.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons — March to May, and late September through November — when temperatures are comfortable, the light is soft and the city is at its most photogenic. April brings orange blossom and, around Semana Santa and the Feria, a very different and much busier Seville. Summer is hot enough that I schedule almost exclusively at sunrise. Winter is quiet, mild by northern European standards and genuinely underrated: fewer crowds, long golden light right through the middle of the day, and far more flexibility on timing. If you are choosing your dates around the photoshoot rather than the other way round, aim for late April or October.
We agree on locations and a start time before you arrive, so nothing has to be decided on the day while eight people stand waiting in the sun. I meet you at the first spot and we begin with the easy things — walking, holding hands, following the children — until everybody has forgotten about the camera. From there I work through the group combinations, then let the session loosen up again at the end. Most family shoots run between one and two hours depending on how many locations and how many people are involved. Any permit questions are handled in advance; the rules for photographing at Seville's monuments are set out on the Seville photography permits page.
Every image you receive is individually edited for colour, exposure and tone, then delivered in a private online gallery you can download at full resolution and share with family at home. Turnaround is usually around two weeks, and I send a small preview set within a few days so you have something to show before you have even flown home. The gallery stays available for you to return to, and the files are yours to print however you like. If you would like to talk through dates, group sizes or locations before booking anything, the contact page is the fastest way to reach me — or take a look at the solo and travel portrait sessions if you are travelling without the rest of the family.
